This is a really gorgeous set, reminds me a lot of Zelda games. I started working on an RPG maker game that I plan to draw all the assets in, but I wanted something to start with so I wouldn't get bogged down in drawing stuff and never being happy with how it looked.
Seems you haven't quite worked out RPG Maker MZ support so I'll have to do a fair bit of 'reformatting' of things. Which is too bad, I hoped to be able to just buy it and go. But I know how to use Photoshop, so it's not the end of the world.
Still, it would have been really nice to be able to just drop these into RPG Maker and go instead of having to do a bunch of work :) (their auto tile system gives me a headache. It's not that complicated but it's still annoying.)
Hi David! I'm almost done with RMaker MZ (which is the easiest to set mainly because their 16x16 option and layering, allowing a more "custom" use of tilesets A, B, C, D). Character packs are already Rmaker-ready (with options for Rmaker XP, VX, Ace and MV as well) The main issue with Rmaker tilesets (taking me forever) is the stark limitation on width and length, which requires me to constantly make more tileset groups and constantly sacrifice tiles (dramatically so with terrains) and decoration to make everything fit in 256x256 groups.
The final result will probably still need quite some tinkering from the users, as it won't allow all the possible required combinations for each map anyways :'(
Thanks for the quick reply. I'll hold off until you say you're done then. I tried doing it myself but RPG maker's auto tile system is such a mind**** (not sure if you can swear in the comments on here.) I tried to do it myself but it gave me such a headache. I don't know why their system is so obtuse from the artist's perspective. Having the system generate these middle ground tiles based on little subtitles is ridiculous. It would make far more sense to just allow people to do a few 9/9 grids. Like this literally waves a couple megabytes per game, but wastes hours and hours of the artist's time.
Sorry one more thing. Do you have any rough estimate for when you think those will be done? (Don't want to rush or make you think you're under the gun. I honestly should have checked the description before buying... though your tiles are really gorgeous.) Once you do complete I'll purchase the pack again (I realize I don't have to but I will do it as a thank you.)
Also not sure if you're aware, if you want to make 16/16 tiles into 32/32 and 48/48 tiles for the three sizes of RPG Maker MZ tile set options you can just set Photoshop or whatever image app you're using to resample with nearest neighbour and then change your DPI from whatever it is to that number x2 for 32/32 and x3 for 48/48. Which might cut off future requests from people who want larger tiles. (Don't feel a need to do that just for me though, that's easy to do myself in Photoshop.)
Absolutely stunning. Easily the most polished, professional, and amazing set I’ve seen on here or anywhere for that matter. Will definitely be keeping you in mind if I ever manage to get a project going.
Hi! At the moment they all feature 4-directional, 3 frames walking movement! I'm planning on adding a few attacks and other options as minor updates during the next months, but the focus of this particular pack has been tilesets and environments!
Oh! I set some animated tiled files while working and tryint the tileset, but I think it's a good idea to provide them once they're update with the new layouts. I'll be giving support to a variety of formats and layout in the next days and weeks, and I may as well add Tiled animation as well!
Thank you! Regarding sprite colors, I tried to follow the old school gbc games! Some of them (bosses and bigger sprites) have one more color hue to make them look richer (so they're actually black, highlight and two hues). I wanted to keep the characters quite simple and contrasted in order to make them pop a lot more withing the environment, but I also have a few more options in store... :'P
Hello! Sorry for the extremely late reply, but I didn't see this comment until today! Sadly, due to the bundled nature of the pack resources it would be very difficult to me to make price estimates and on-demand deliveries and exports for each part of it! I chose an affordable price policy (14,99 for more than 80 characters, thousands of tiles and animation frames) on a wide selection of tiles rather than very specific packs for this very reason!
Just bought the pack. Love your style. Using these in a game I have been creating. I would love to hire you for some commissions if you have time. Name your price! What a talent!
Hehe! Thank you so much Brandon, I'm flattered! At the moment my commissions are full, but I will probably open a batch later in May! I tend to post openings on my socials, you can find me pretty much on every platform as Zaebucca in case! You can find all the links on my carrd!
okay first off amazing!!! I love them! Quick question, is the Adventurers & Adversaries! included in this, or is a different pack? It looks like a link on phone, but either isn’t or isn’t hooked up. I basically want to know what is included in the 14.99 pack. Sorry for the bold, my phone won’t unfold it.
Never mind I see what’s included now. But I was wondering if you will be adding more or not?
Hey Lucas, don't worry for the bold hueheuhe! Yes indeed, tilesets and character sprites are all together in the 14,99 pack! I'm adding animations for bosses, a few characters and pixel battle effects, as well as rpgmaker and godot layouts, these updates will also be included in 14,99!
Hey! Yes, at the present date these tilesets included are not rpgmaker-ready! I'm still working a bit on tilesets and autotiles, which are not available yet as an rpgmaker format (I would like to provide an actual rgss file with connections and interactions working, but I'm a bit unfamiliar with rmvx, vx ace and mz and it's taking a bit of time) Characters instead are already rpgmaker-ready!
I am planning a big release with godot and possibly gb studio formats all together!
Thank you for your support! As a little update, I'm planning a bundle release of all the updates and extra content for this pack, due to popular demand. :'> Stay tuned for more!
Not too strictly! I took quite some liberties. Tilesets generally follow the 4 color rule, and the general palette per environment is 16 colors or less. Character sprites, for the vast majority, are 4 colors, while bosses come in two versions: 5 and 4 colors! Their sprites may be a little too big too!
Can't express how happy I am you even gave the large monsters 4-directional sprites! This means I can use them for tactical RPGs where facing is important!
Yes indeed! I think I will update the page with some previews showcasing the fact that every character, bosses included, are available in 4 directions! Really happy this is helping you! :'>
Thank you so much! And absolutely yes! For example, those early supporters who got the full Adventure Begins pack earlier last month, also got access for Adventurers & Adversaries at no additional cost. :'> I'm always adding and enhancing stuff, so be sure to check my devlogs for all the updates!
Of course, please keep in mind that this will not be my only project, and a few more asset packs are planned - each with its own aesthetic and features. That being said, once you get each pack (or future bundles!), all its dedicated updates will be included at no additional costs, and I will always try to include a major content update for each pack, like this one!
Hehe, thank you! If you mean more of my artpieces, you can find me on threadless and INPRNT as Zaebucca, or you can check my Patreon for more exclusive previews / wips / HD downloads. I also have a commission sheet available on twitter, but indeed I'm quite full until May!
Thank you so much! I think that this latest character expansion really brings more life and possibilities to the project, which is my aim when thinking what I am offering and planning for all the devs! :'>
Excellent pack (had to buy it), more of that please! Interested in a cooperation? Then hop in my discord so that we can have a chat. https://discord.gg/gvr98nb
Heyyy!! I would love to make it godot-friendly, but sadly I have zero knowledge of the system! Is there like a template I can adapt to?
I'm still working for rpgmaker optimization, but I'd love to include as many formats as possible, especially considering the overworld character expansion I'm releasing at the end of the month. :'>
At the moment animations for the complete pack are exported into 4 separate "general" tilesets, each showing a frame from the cycle!
humn, for templates, you could check This Link, its got a bunch of templates for diffrent types of, unfortunately, one of the godot images is broken, but if you go here and click "Assigning properties to multiple tiles at once" you can see the one godot recomends just above it, its the standard template but personaly i prefer this one since i feel its the optimal one.
will the expansion be a seperate pack or an addon to this pack? *peers* now im curious! and will there be monsters and minions and npcs in it? =D
so those seperate tiles, how are they set up? like most tileset with the *entire* "first" set followed by the second and so on? or individual tiles with its entire animation chain? (gods i wish i could doo the 2 peering eye balls here xD)
Gosh, thank you so much! Somehow I didn't take notice of this message until now - I probably had the notification but could have missed it! I will definitely include Godot compatibility as it's been quite a hot topic recently, and I'm always very happy to learn more stuff and systems. Luckily enough the autotile you linked seems quite similar in concept to what I usually do, so it should be no problem to create similar assets!
And yes! The update has just been released as an add-on to the pack, included in the 14,99 price tag for the basic pack! If you already bought the pack, you can just come back and pick the other zip file with all the character art, featuring npcs, monsters, animals and big bosses too! :'> Animations and attack effects are coming too, as it's been a common request! I've already made a bunch but I feel like there's a lot more to be done for a "starter pack". You can find a little more about Adventurers & Adversaries here!
For animated tiles instead, you will find four "complete animation" tilesets, each with a specific frame from the 4 cycle. So basically if you have the tileset "cycle" between its 4 versions, you have the correct animation!
I am definitely interested into making all the possible layouts and formats for platforms! I've been working quite a bit with rpgmaker as of now, but I would *love* to provide Godot compatibility too!
I'm happy to hear! I haven't used RPG Maker since 2K hehe. I saw someone posted a template for Godot compatibility on the tilesets, although I do not know enough about art to know if making adjustments would be easy/hard to do.
Hiii Vincent, thank you for asking! You ask a very relevant question indeed and I hope you don't mind if I go a bit in-depth about that: I will also add this answer as a FAQ on both platforms. As a short answer: the 20% discount (30% for Lv.4 Geomancers) will be for future stand-alone or bundle asset packs, separate from the Adventure Series "starter pack".
An in-depth analysis:
Adventure Begins and its two major expansions will always be included as base perks for patreon tiers 3 (Architect) and 4 (Geomancer) AND in the 14,99$ itch.io price tier. 1. The first expansion pack is called "Adventurers & Adversaries", features overworld characters and enemies will be available later this very month: https://zaebucca.itch.io/adventure-begins/devlog/681149/adventure-begins-adventu... 2. The second expansion pack is called "Adventure Below"and its two instalments (tilesets and character sprites, much alike Adventure Begins) will release mid-March and late-March. 3. A third, final expansion in two instalments (tilesets and sprites as usual) releases in April, completing the Adventure Series.
After the Adventure Series reaches its completion in April, further assets will release monthly and simultaneously on itch and Patreon. These assets will either be further expansions / concepts for the Adventure Series and brand new series or styles such as side-scrolling, isometric, sprite packs etc etc. These packs will be included in patron's subscription for patrons as one-time, monthly codes at no added cost. Patrons, among other things, also get to partecipate in the process and give early feedback / ideas fore the new material through polls and workshops.
After the monthly code expires, these packs will still be available through itch.io to purchase. This is where the 20% discount (30% for Geomancers) comes in handy: bundles, legacy packs and any purchase that are not featured in Patreon's monthly release for new subscribers will be discounted anyways for patrons.
Please note that in the future, there will be new itch.io bundles of course, as well as promotional sales and discounts and the possibility of creating/adding new material to patreon starter packs other than Adventure Begins. Of course, the new material and timed perks will always be considered benefits to patrons and early itch.io supporters!
So, to sum it up: Itch.io is tailored around developers or fans who would benefit ready-for-use, specific assets and resources once they are released/updated, whereas Patreon is meant as a long period comunity project that offers added perks and interaction (like personal art archives, HD collections, wallpapers, tutorials, discord, workshops and so on), with the added benefit of featuring new monthly, timed releases from itch.io.
I love the idea! Could very well be the palette in this case, making the asset look more like a fairytale aesthetic! I have in store some different aesthetics and ideas too in the (very!) near future! :')
Thank you Nosferatube! I've been doing tilesets and pixel art for a while now, but I am very happy to finally bring that to others in a technical, gamedev related way! :')
Grazie mille davvero Hairic! Sai, tileset e assets sono una materia anche in qualche modo tecnica, ma mi fa davvero piacere sapere che mantengano un po' di atmosfera!
Woah! A real wonder to see your stuff here! Always been a huge inspiration of mine! Your fantastic pixel work never fails to leave me inspired, cheers!
Thank you so much VEXED!! I made these tiles thinking mainly how those could help gamedevs - and pixel artists as well! Even if a single tile from the free demo can be of any help, then I will feel realized!
Thank youuu! I've tried to convey all my love for classic games, and ultimately it's a style I enjoy so deeply... And yep! Extra tilesets, improved compatibility and layouts for rpgmaker and much more is coming
Thank you Hetreasky!! I've been working quite a lot on the water tiles and I'm pretty satisfied with the overall feeling and colors. I tried to stick to 4 frames to give a retro atmosphere (and rpgmaker compatibility), but balancing the details and stuff with animation is always tricky. :'
Thank you so much Frogge! I have already started development on the next batch of updates (both as new packs, bundles and overall quality and technical improvements for Adventure Begins) and I have even more ideas for the long run! I will try my best to also make this experience more partecipative to everyone: it is more fun and refreshing to implement lots of different ideas! :'>
Thank you so much! I always take a bit extra time for palettes and even if the initial idea was pretty clear to me, these tiles changed a lot during the past months! At the very beginning, I planned those to be 8x8pixels, but I ultimately felt that was too cumbersome to work with. This was the very beginning of the pack, with stark colors and lots of microtiling:
Working a bit on that, and making a few more tries and receiving feedback, I'm quite happy with the "easier on the eye" final result. :'>

That's a lovely request, and I can just say... stay tuned!
This is really, really beautiful. Thank you for making the set!
Wow, the stunning material resolution, what a nostalgic and exquisite art style
Really cool assets, fantastic work!

Beautiful work! Is there estimate as to when Godot support is coming? Will defo get the whole pack once it does, this is just what I’m looking for.
Absolutely stunning. Easily the most polished, professional, and amazing set I’ve seen on here or anywhere for that matter. Will definitely be keeping you in mind if I ever manage to get a project going.
Holy shit....absolutely incredible. My jaw dropped.
I often see a lot of assets I fall in love with on itch but very few get that reaction out of me.
So happy to hear you're adding RPG Maker support, its my creative outlet of choice. Following you and will buy it the second its updated.
Which animation do the caracteres have?
Hi! At the moment they all feature 4-directional, 3 frames walking movement!
I'm planning on adding a few attacks and other options as minor updates during the next months, but the focus of this particular pack has been tilesets and environments!

Beautiful work, it looks almost as though it were painted!!!
Btw: Why is it that you've chosen to have characters decorated in various shades of the same hue?
The visual inspiration is almost certainly based on the limited palettes seen in GBC games.
holy heck this is freaking GORGEOUS! great stuff!!
Hello, can I buy only the waterfall for a small price then the full version?
Hello! Sorry for the extremely late reply, but I didn't see this comment until today!

Thanks for the reply! I have been looking for assets like these for awhile, so I ended up buying them to make a game. I look forward to the updates!
The tilesets are beautiful, but they don't seem to be (as far as I can tell) formatted for RPGMaker.
Unless I am mistaken, as things stand now, this will require a lot of cropping and moving things around.

Thank you for all your hard work. Please take your time.
Thank you for your support!

incredible work!
Thank you June! Sorry, I missed the comment. :'>
This is just the beginning!
Very pretty 💚
Thank you Seliel! You are my gold standard for asset packs!
oh my, don't make me blush 🥰
Hehe, it's only fair! I basically discovered itch.io a few years ago from your twitter and Gif's!
Well, you have some really lovely art, with a very distinctive style. I'm sure your assets will be very popular 🤗 Good luck!
gameboy color compatible? :o

😳💦
Yooo! Didn't realize that! And, you know, it's also your merit! 😭
Thanks for the free update i will gladly hand over another 15 for it when I get home :)
Yooo! Thank you so much! And don't worry, it's all yours for 14,99 only, just once and with all the upcoming updates / corrections! :'>
I just bought your asset pack, It is very beautiful
Thank you so much! I hope you'll look forward to this Friday's update! :'>

Amaaazing asset! Can you explain your patreon level 3? 20% discount of what, if there is only one asset and its already included on level 3? Thanks!
1. The first expansion pack is called "Adventurers & Adversaries", features overworld characters and enemies will be available later this very month: https://zaebucca.itch.io/adventure-begins/devlog/681149/adventure-begins-adventu...
2. The second expansion pack is called "Adventure Below" and its two instalments (tilesets and character sprites, much alike Adventure Begins) will release mid-March and late-March.
3. A third, final expansion in two instalments (tilesets and sprites as usual) releases in April, completing the Adventure Series.
These packs will be included in patron's subscription for patrons as one-time, monthly codes at no added cost. Patrons, among other things, also get to partecipate in the process and give early feedback / ideas fore the new material through polls and workshops.
So, to sum it up:
Itch.io is tailored around developers or fans who would benefit ready-for-use, specific assets and resources once they are released/updated, whereas Patreon is meant as a long period comunity project that offers added perks and interaction (like personal art archives, HD collections, wallpapers, tutorials, discord, workshops and so on), with the added benefit of featuring new monthly, timed releases from itch.io.
Please let me know if there are any doubts!
This is amazing! I've been drooling about your art on twitter for years... I adore your style, it's an honor to make something with it :D
Providing help and support to devs means the world to me! I have been wanting to do this for a while and I am thrilled to see the results!
absolutely sugoi, as expected of Zaebucca sensei
Thank you peb! Trying my best!
These look like a storybook :)
I love the idea! Could very well be the palette in this case, making the asset look more like a fairytale aesthetic! I have in store some different aesthetics and ideas too in the (very!) near future! :')
This is EXCELLENT
Thank you spooky-precious!
This is legitimately BEAUTIFUL, rarely do you see pixel art look this good.
Thank you Nosferatube! I've been doing tilesets and pixel art for a while now, but I am very happy to finally bring that to others in a technical, gamedev related way! :')
La perfezione fatta a pixel. Il tuo lavoro prende tutta la bellezza e precisione della pixel art e va oltre. Potentissimo!
This looks SO good man!! Looking forward to future updates for sure.
Thank youuu! I've tried to convey all my love for classic games, and ultimately it's a style I enjoy so deeply... And yep! Extra tilesets, improved compatibility and layouts for rpgmaker and much more is coming
Awesome! Can't wait to see your sprites to go along with this style as well.
Incredible all around- The water animations in particular are absolutely stunning work- So much detail on every frame. Love it all!!
Ooh I think RPG Maker, at least the latest ones (MV's what I tinker in), are only 3 frame animated tile compatible! Still adore these all the same ^^
Gonna buy this just as soon as I can - your pixel art is crazy good and I can't wait to see more from this set!
Your asset pack is a true gem! The colors are solid, and everything looks awesome. I love the retro aspect!
IT BEGINS
YES
(Thank you so freaking much for all the support and encouragement!)
